An Update from Intel
What an interesting weekend. I am sure you can imagine what my inbox has looked the last few days. I appreciate your patience as the team works very hard on the MeeGo Software Platform to move things forward.
As you know, MeeGo has always been an open source platform with many supporters, Intel foremost among them. This support is consistent with our long track record in open source projects and platforms including MeeGo, Yocto embedded Linux, LessWatts, the Linux kernel, Linux graphics, Google Android, ChromeOS, KVM, and many others. At Intel, we work very hard to make sure the software our customers use and want to use, runs best on our hardware platforms.
MeeGo supports a wide variety of devices. It is shipping and there is momentum across multiple segments today, including automotive systems, netbooks, tablets, set-top boxes, and phones. MeeGo will continue to be hosted under the Linux Foundation, follow a governance model based on the best practices of open source development and function according to Linux Foundation rules.
With all the emphasis in the news about markets and companies, it's worth reminding ourselves what MeeGo stands for. MeeGo provides an open source, open governance platform that provides application and platform compliance. This is why over 100 ecosystem partners continue to support MeeGo. As for Intel, we'll let our code speak for itself.

Thanks Intel!!!
Thanks Intel,
We are waiting for one Handset with MeeGo!!!
I like MeeGo and read this
I like MeeGo and read this post consists of the update from Intel about MeeGo. Intel is doing a great thing by supporting open source projects and platforms such as MeeGo, Yocto embedded Linux, LessWatts, the Linux kernel, Linux graphics, Google Android, ChromeOS, and KVM etc. I am really glad to hear from the Intel about how much they concern about MeeGo and their support. I too am waiting for a handset with MeeGo, supported, does angies list have a mobile application? I hope it will be developed soon.
Thanks, but...
Thanks a lot for your statement, Imad. But right now, Meego exists for more than a year, and no mainstream device has seen the light. Meego needs a device (better a handset) to show everyone that it is alive and well. I'll be queueing to buy it as soon as it is available. Keep up the good job.
great job
wow, what a great job for intel!!!
love meego hate that it doesn't run on AMD
I so love meego, try it on a dell inspiron but it's not my notebook and i have a amd based desktop and a intel based notebook but with sis chipset.meego doesn't work on any of them, that's a shame
I love MeeGo much more than Android
You know, android is blooming now, but I am sure MeeGo will change the condition.
I am buying a new phone , after deep consideration, I focus my eyes on MileStone, android os,yeah ,it's cool
but now , I would rather waiting for some time , cuz I think now i am more into Nokia N10 ,MeeGo,wow~

It is really exiting that we
It is really exiting that we will have a truly linux device in our hands. The meego device will be powerful than other platform when it come to us.
Please, go faster ...
As soon as I heard about Meego, I enjoyed about this project. But, it is now more than 1 year old, and I think it's now time to build phones with Meego, or it will be very too late.
It was already too late for Nokia....
Go go go !
the only true linux os for mobile!
keep it up intel and other partners, excluding that betrayer NOKIA
we must see some meego phone and tablet this year otherwise meego will be irrelevant in this mobile industry
and make sure the following killer apps are there when meego is ready
mplayer or vlc
youtube with download plugin
im with integrated skype, voip_sip, yahoo, msn, google talk, etc
tehter app
tranmission torrent app
games emulator
hope i can buy meego phone from companies other than stupid nokia
Thanks to intel and other partners of MeeGo
It is very happy that intel and other MeeGo partners are holding there values and saying together " MeeGo will come and hit the market". I am also believing this threshold.
am waiting for this big monster to come " The smarter , Faster , Brilliant , Efficient, Awesome -> MeeGo"
Best Regards
Hari
N900 future
I am thinking of buying a n900
Is it worth buying n900 now
Does it have future ?
Will the final version of meego and it's app will it work on it?
If it can run atleast partially i will buy it
thanks in advance
Carry on
I feel a bit disappoint when Nokia chose the WP, Meego is ture Linux, and I don't like Android. Luckly, Intel is still here, so chose carry on. Hope see Meego device this year
let meego turns intel into smartphone leader
intel
we believe in meego and you, intel.
how about making meego phone using intel mobile chip
intel, future smartphone leader!
Great
I'm a Meego fans! I come from China.
Hope MeeGo Will Prevail
I recently bought a N900 and installed meego and the qt creator, just for the purpose of supporting the development.
When there is time I will port some popular (and free) mobile applications to the meego platform so people that already own one of the popular devices will have an easier choice/transition to a meego device.
Really love maemo (due to my recently bought n900 - never used it before) and I sincerely hope that meego will be even better.

MeeGo Touch NOT! On Meego 1.2 UX Tablet
It is using Linux Kernal Touch Drivers, that is what the UX is for!
yes
yes
Now would it be Meego first or Android first for Intel?
Meego has a lot of possibilities and could on the top. But for committing resources and efforts for the smaller companies to it after Nokia pulled out of the deal, one needs to know whether it will be Meego first or Android first from Intel. Also what is tentative schedule for release of Meego support mobile devices?
Intel showing off Nokia stuff
I like how Intel has shown software mostly developed by Nokia at MWC, as the tablet UX is using MeeGo Touch and QML.
meego and qt,Welcome to china
Welcome to China
Meego will succeed !!!
Meego will succeed !!!
Newly attracted developer here!
Hey all,
I honestly didn't know about Meego until Nokia left. I have loads of time and Ideas. I would love to get cracking, but, I am crying for some help getting the dev platform up. Somebody please take a look at my post in the handset forum.
Thank You,
Darrell Lewis
Go MeeGo Go Qt
IMHO this is a great chance for Intel to enter a new market and new era by supporting even more MeeGo and Qt.
It is certain that these products have huge potential to gain lots of market share,
Obviously Qt needs a new home now and Intel could be one. Go for it.
Thank INTEL!
Hope many meego supported mobile phone come out this year.
Thanks Intel
Thank you so much for sticking by a great project when others have wavered can't wait to get a phone with linux and an x86 chip in it :)
Intel Commitment
Imad, I know the community appreciates your hard work, we are also excited about the Meego Tablet software stack we are eharing about, REgards, George
Much appreciated Imad
Thank you for your email reply to me and even more so, for this public statement. So far Intel is the one half of the original MeeGo team that has not let us down. Many of us are nervous still, but I think enough will tough out the changes.
We Are MeeGo!
:)
Thanks Intel!
Hope that Intel never gets Ellop as a CEO.
Great!!
I strongly believe Meego will rock the smartphone world.
Do not under estimate the size of the community
We are right behind you at intel. Don't forget what makes Meego works well is it's community and it's background with Moblin had a very very strong brand that Nokias decision will have little bearing on.
It is good to hear today a position of strength and stability from Intel rather than press guff and hype.
MeeGo is broader than just one vertical
One of the key things about MeeGo is that it will allow different devices to use the same API. I know that sounds kind of technical and abstract, but think of it this way: you can run the same apps on your car, your TV, your computer and phone! That will be amazing not least because it lightens the load for developers and they can spend time creating cool stuff instead of re-making their app for a new platform.
This is why companies like Microsoft want to slow MeeGo, it holds a lot of promise. That is also why it will succeed in the marketplace; it is something that developers need and will use.
Why would they want to?
The argument that developers can write an app once for the car, the phone, the tablet and the fridge is a good one, if there were demand for that. But why would a developer want to do do that? The same app that will work well on an iPhone type interface won't work as well in a car or an airplane seat, or a full screen computer. iPhone and Android have shown that it's possible to scale up from smartphone to tablet, but even there, I think developers will start targeting the larger screen rather than limiting themselves to the least common denominator of the two.
I don't think it's enough to say that you can write once, run everywhere for an embedded app - first you need to gain mindshare in a market segment, and spread from there. The developer story around multiple form factors & device categories is weak, for me.
Cheers,
Dave.
One very short word: Qt
The point of Qt and Qt Quick is to embrace and extend enhance this one-api-for-all direction. Apps with a C++ Qt backend and any number of Qt Quick (QML) frontend GUIs for different form factors. Nokias direction with QML is/was spot on to take advantage of the single MeeGo API for all classes of devices. One of my main concerns with Intel is that I have not heard much, or anything, about how they will embrace Qt in the future after 11.2.11 or whether they will fall back to a Moblin/GTK/Clutter interface. The tablet interface they demo'd starts off with a QML based concept but behind that seemed like older Moblin-like designs. My problem with webOS, and why I dismiss jumping on their bandwagon, is they do not use Qt or Qt Creator. Similarly with Android, who in their right mind would want to embrace Java after using Qt/QML.
I think when we say "MeeGo" we mainly mean a QML frontend on a traditional linux stack. I hope that remains the case and Qt remains 100% front and center.
outside the box
I think what's more useful will be thinking differently about what apps are, and how a rich MeeGo ecosystem can utilize them and benefit. I see the benefit more in terms of fluid services and easy data interactions between the various elements of a MeeGo ecosystem than in shared apps. Yes that's abstract and vague but only because I think we're facing a sort of singularity here and it's difficult to fully conceptualize what's possible.
Remember that Nokia has said
Remember that Nokia has said there will be a MeeGo product.
Sure, but:
1) Nokia did not say it would be a handset, I'm betting on a wifi only tablet
2) they will release it with as little fanfare as possible and make sure it is not polished so that it gets poor reviews
3) in order to give the top management a good excuse to kill Nokia's involvement in Meego definitely.
Edit: ok I'm speculating here, I cannot know for sure. But after last week's news, this is what I expect.
Devices
Sir,
It is good to know that Intel is still supporting Meego. However, the main problem is that there are zero devices running it. Before Nokia's change in strategy, there was hope of being able one day to purchase smartphones running Meego. The only other hope I had was with Intel's announcements at MWC. I followed news closely yesterday. The conclusion is that there may be a Meego tablet one day perhaps, but no smartphones. What is left for Meego then? No one needs another Linux distro for netbooks, and this is very much what Meego looks like today.
relief
i must say that my heart sank when i heard of the betrayal. but what else can one expect from the trojan that was planted at the very top. nokia is now a gone case.
i hope intel will not back down ever. i want my first smartphone to be a MeeGo
Hold on to MeeGo Intel!
I am relieved a bit by this post..Please dont let MeeGo down Intel! After the "Great Betrayal", MeeGo has hopes on you and the Linux Foundation..
Go MeeGo Go
imagine MeeGo for handsets to be successful without Nokia. that would be an historical win against Elop and Ballmer. sometimes dreams become true ;)
Thanks Intel
Thanks for not needing camera time to garner notoriety. Thanks for asking that you be judged by your works, not your words. MeeGo is going to be awesome.
Thanks
Thanks Intel.. That was great
Its a great news to hear from Intel
Thanks Intel. We want to see Smart Phone from Intel on MeeGo. We would believe MeeGo Smart Phone will be the best in Smart Phone world.
