MeeGo 1.1 Release
Today we are announcing the project release of MeeGo 1.1. It provides a solid baseline for device vendors and developers to start creating software for various device categories on Intel Atom* and ARMv7 architectures.
This release includes:
- Core OS 1.1 – consolidated common base operating system for all UXs
- Netbook UX 1.1 - complete set of core applications for netbooks
- In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) UX 1.1 – includes a sample IVI home screen and taskbar built with Qt 4.7 and speech recognition
- Handset UX 1.1 - technology snapshot implements basic development UX for voice calling, SMS messaging, web browsing, music and video playback, photo viewing, and connection management
- SDK 1.1 Beta - SDK for MeeGo Core OS and supported UXs will be released during the coming days before the MeeGo Summit conference in Dublin.
The 1.1 Core OS provides a complete set of enabling technologies for mobile computing. The MeeGo stack contains Linux Kernel 2.6.35, X.org server 1.9.0, Web Runtime, Qt 4.7, and Qt Mobility 1.0.2, supporting the contacts, location, messaging, multimedia, and sensor and service frameworks. It also includes a number of leading edge components, such as the oFono telephony stack, the ConnMan connection manager, the Tracker data indexer, the Telepathy real-time communications framework, the Buteo sync framework, and many more.
These technologies are brought to application developers through the MeeGo API, which is based on Qt and other technologies, such as the MeeGo Touch Framework. Furthermore, with the latest Qt version 4.7 the MeeGo developer experience is now enhanced with the introduction of QML, the easy to use scripting technology for animated touch-enabled GUI apps.
Looking Ahead to MeeGo 1.2
MeeGo development continues forward on a six-month cadence. MeeGo 1.2 is scheduled for April of 2011 and it will include a Handset UX release with a complete set of applications, and support for other device usage models.
Hundreds of features targeting MeeGo 1.2 have already been filed in MeeGo Featurezilla, which we are using as a tool to track feature development. The development tree of the new MeeGo version is open and we are starting to integrate the new components right now. The MeeGo 1.2 roadmap summarizing this information will be published soon.
Learn More at the MeeGo Conference
You can learn more about the MeeGo project and the people behind it at the MeeGo Conference in Dublin, November 15-17. Program information and registration is available at http://conference2010.meego.com/
Many thanks to all the MeeGo contributors and to the great upstream projects that provide the basis for our work, such as the Linux Kernel, X.org, freedesktop.org, Qt, and many more.

Hope to see nice SSH GUI on 1.2
I use a lot ssh and I really want to see an advanced and nice candy GUI for managing ssh tunnels, port forwards, ssh-keys. Do it like Tunnelier ssh-client does it. Where is the first MeeGo phone release?
MSN Messenger
I installed the latest updates and all messenger account login issues were fixed, Apart from MSN which is still saying Network Error.
MSN
When will the telepathy components be updated to support the new MSN servers?
HFS Mount Support
Might be an idea to include HFS Support in the next build so we can see disk partitions created with Mac OSX.
Wireless Issue
I'm guessing the wireless driver isn't functioning properly as my wireless connection keeps dropping out when using WPA. I have the Atheros version in my Samsung, is it possible to update/change the wireless driver in Meego at all? Having said that Atheros drivers are usually included in Linux builds aren't they?
DHCP
It seems to be more stable if I use static IP.
wirelles not working
Wireless for my Dell Mini isn't working
Heya Guys:
I have a Dell Mini 10v, running Mac OSx. I have just downloaded MeeGo to see how it would work - I like it that it is a more fully built out Linux OS and unlike Chrome, allows for offline usage. However the fact that I can't use MeeGo with the internet at all is a dealbreaker - any idea when this will be working?
Re: wirelles not working
The wireless driver for the hp mini note 210 is probably not supported in the build.
Nice work...
Moblin wouldn't function fully on my Samsung N130 Netbook, wireless didn't work etc. This build works fine at first looks, wireless works now, only problem I seem to be having is a Security issue with App Manager and Software Updater.
Had same problem, solved by
Had same problem, solved by deselecting core in Software sources, doing a refresh and then re-selecting core for another refresh. Got an accept cert pop up and it seem to cure the problem. I can't seem to update the kernel now :( seems to always be in the update list, but won't install.
Thanks I'll give that a bash.
Thanks I'll give that a bash.
Update System
I'm assuming you were using the App Manager? I was using the Update System app and get the following error: A Security Signature is not present. A security trust relationship could not be made with the Software source. Please check your security settings.
Same error
OK, you get the same error in both applications, I can't get it to bring up the security confirmation dialog you got though. :(
3rd Refresh
The trust dialog finally came up on 3rd refresh. :)
The Linux Kernel Update
Having the same issue with this 18.1mb update stuck in the update list.
...
Still waiting for MeeGo desktop edition (with AMD processor support) and MeeGo-powered handset from Nokia!! :D Hurry up, people are going crazy!
Be Patient
This is the birth of our new baby OS. My Meegoers please patient the Netbook release ready so the Desktop would be.
Dual boot w7
Can v install along with W7 (dual boot) ?
Desktop Edition
When will the Meego Desktop Edition come out? And will it use Meego's own desktop environment or KDE or something else?
Dual boot
I hope I can install as a dual boot (Win XP and Meego) with ease.
Tablet UX
What happened to the Tablet UX ? I don't see it listed here.
There's a preview I saw in summer which looked very good.
Tablet UX
i also have the same question, and i find no answer online for this.
What happened to the
What happened to the TabletUI..is it an add on to 1.1?

checkout and build
is there a way for me to check out the whole source tree and build it from scratch, the way like others do?
Building whole meego from scratch
Yes, this is possible and this is what meego is designed for from ground up.
MeeGo uses the OpenSuSe Build System (OBS), an open source project itself of course, to do frequent builds in build.meego.com. Sources to MeeGo are pulled there from thousand upstream project repositories for daily builds and it is perfectly possible for anyone to replicate this process. But I am not sure if there are easy instructions available today, at least I have not seen so far. Good places to start are wiki.meego.com and meego dev mailing list.
it's there.....
I recall coming across some straight forward steps for doing this in the wiki.
I think you need to re-read........
Building whole meego from scratch
"But I am not sure if there are easy instructions available today, at least I have not seen so far. " --Yes that's exactly why I am asking here. Yes I read the wiki and lists.
Those instructions in some way should be the first step to tackle if you really want to build a community, that's what other project did (android, openembedded, etc), and it's called developer friendliness.
Apparently build.meego.com is
Apparently build.meego.com is only available to official developers (internal group only). Chances are, if you try it for yourself, it won't work to log in.
Very important steps
I hope so much that MeeGo will become an amazing operative system that we will use on our desktops, netbooks, mobile computers and on many other devices. MeeGo should allow consumers to experience technology in a new, integrated way. When we will use different devices we will have same datas, similar application, the same ecosystem. Go MeeGo, become our future universal OS.
Will there actually be a desktop ver?
"I hope so much that MeeGo will become an amazing operative system that we will use on our DESKTOPS, netbooks, mobile computers and on many other devices."
I must have missed the memo?
