Quick Start

  1. Download the live image (MANIFEST | PACKAGES)
  2. Follow the instructions on installing the image on your netbook or nettop.

The MeeGo Netbook User Experience includes:

  • Visually rich netbook user experience, built on the latest open source technologies.
  • Touch support integrated on netbooks/nettops.
  • Instant access to your calendar, tasks, appointments, recently used files, and real-time social networking updates through the home screen.
  • Aggregation of your social networking content. This allows you to see your social networking activities on one screen, easily interact with your friends, and update your status and site information.
  • For a fast and rich internet experience: MeeGo Netbook user experience integrates Google Chrome or, if you prefer a fully open source browser solution, Google Chromium is also provided.
  • Easy to use applications for email, calendar, and media player.
  • Power and performance optimized.
  • Languages: Japanese, Korean, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Swedish, Polish, Finnish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Dutch, English, and British English.
  • MeeGo Core OS: The MeeGo Netbook image includes the MeeGo 1.2 Core OS. Check the release notes for details.

Supported Hardware

In general, MeeGo v1.2 for Netbook will run on Intel Atom* based netbooks, and has been tested on the following platforms:
  • Pinetrail Netbook: HP mini, Asus Eee PC* 1005PE
  • Nettop: MSI AE1900-B
  • Notebook: Acer Aspire* One 5740-6025
  • Lenovo S10-3t

Installing

  1. Download the image above.
  2. Load the image onto your device or PC.
  3. Required: Copy the image to a USB drive or burn it to CD.
    Note: Image size (img): 900~ MB
  4. Follow the instructions for installing the image. (est. time: 30 minutes to download, install, and reboot)

Known Issues and Workarounds

System will not reboot automatically after installation of the MeeGo1.2 image.
Description: During Meego1.2 installation, when getting to the last step of clicking the "close" button to reboot the system, system will stop responding and won't reboot automatically.
Workaround: Press and hold the power button to turn off the device. Then restart the device by pressing the power button again. This will not affect a successful installation.
Bug 12562: System unable to reboot automatically after finishing installing the image.
On People Panel, clicking on a contact will pop up an Empathy contact list
Description: Click on a contact in the people panel, An Empathy contact list shows up instead of the chat window.
Workaround: No known workaround.
Bug 17277: Empathy shows up when clicking on a contact in the People panel.
Time zone for Helsinki cannot be selected during installation
Description: Installed MeeGo with Russian language and on first bootup, if choose Helsinki ("Хельсинки" in Russian) and press the Next button, user can’t move to the next page.
Workaround: No known workaround.
Bug 14191: Time zone for Helsinki cannot be selected.
CD on external cd/dvd driver can't be shown on devices panel
Description: When user plugs an external CD/DVD driver with an CD on USB port , it can’t be shown on the device panel.
Workaround:
Get the file from https://bugs.meego.com/attachment.cgi?id=5421 and put it at /lib/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules of your system.
Bug 15630: Devices panel doesn't show discs from external cd/dvd drive.
Audio can't be heard from user with Asus EEEPC 1005 with Gtalk/Jabber audio/video call
Description: When connected with an Asus EEEPC 1005 through IM (gtalk or Jabber) audio or video call, user can't hear sound from the user with Asus EEEPC 1005.
Workaround: Play only one audio source at a time.
Bug 16806: [ASUS EEEPC1005PE] Other Netbook unable to hear sound from ASUS with G-Talk or Jabber.
Camera can't be used on HP Mini after first boot
Description: When boot the system first time after installation, users launch the webcam app in app panel, "No device found" message show and user unable to use camera.
Workaround: Reboot the system.
Bug 16802: [HP mini][REG] Camera device unable to be found when first launch webcam application.
No sound output on HP Mini
Description: When playback audio file, users can't hear sound by default.
Workaround: Press "Fn" + "F10" to increase the sound volume.
Bug 16192: alsa_input source is muted by default on HP mini.
Wifi doesn't work on Lenovo S10-3t with broadcom wifi chipset
Description: Some Lenovo S10-3t netbooks use the broadcom wifi chipset and wifi will not work, because the Broadcom driver is not available included with MeeGo.
Workaround: Users need to install the Broadcom wifi driver.
